A Hike through the Himalayas in Nepal

A week after returning to Florida my neighbor Kelly invited me to join her on a trip to Nepal to hike the Mt. Everest Base Camp trek. Of course, I said yes to this trip of a lifetime. A few weeks later we flew to Dubai and then to Kathmandu and then four of us from United Arab Emirates (UAE) Trekkers along with Mann the Sherpa flew to Pokhara for a 5 day warmup hike, the Poon Hill Hike, a trek through the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas. This Poon Hill hike consisted of over 40,000 steps through the jungle. This hike is shown in the following pictures and videos.

My neighbor Kelly and I and the first night in Kathmandu and a delicious Yeti beer.

Boarding the flight to Pokhara, Nepal from Kathmandu.

My daughter and I bicycled around the world and were quite used to these squat toilets. The water is used for flushing.

The start of the 5 day Poon Hill Trek.

Our first teahouse (guest house) where we spent the night and ate dinner and breakfast.

The start of 40,000 plus steps in this very vertical climb.

Many suspension bridges.

Ponies are available.

Our porter carried our night stuff. We carried our daily stuff in our camping backpacks.

In the middle of nowhere, we had peanut butter smoothies.

Our first look at Annapurna South Peak.

Near the peak of Poon hill, over 9,000 feet.

Poon Hill summit.

Sunrise in the Himalayas.

Sometimes there were tree roots to hike over.

Annapurna Range.

Prettyrhododendron
trees in bloom.

A bamboo forest.

Well marked toilets.

A huge granite cliff.

A trek through the Himalayan jungle.

Sunrise in the Himilayas.

An early morning flight.

A disgusting squat toilet.

A jungle filled with ferns.

Tea trees.

Rock roofs.

Prayer wheels.

Really interesting construction.

A heavy load.

Electrical wiring in Nepal is very sketchy.

Cool birds.

Waiting for water.

Back at the airport.

Kathmandu waterways are filled with trash.

Our group of 19 United Arab Emirates (UAE) Trekkers flying to Lukla for the start of the Everest Base Camp trek.

A tight fit in this plane. Mann our Sherpa.

One of the most dangerous airports in the world due to the short 1,600 foot runway with a 12 degree downslope to slow landing planes to prevent hitting the wall!

Heavy loads for these women.
