Part 2 of a Green Mountain Hike

Green Mountain.

The views were excellent this day. Normal weather on the mountain is rain.

The South Atlantic Ocean.

An interesting read about Dew Pond which is the highest point on Ascension Island.

The summit of Green Mountain and the highest point on Ascension Island.

To the summit.

Looking towards Georgetown.

Beautiful water.

A line of cinder cones.

The darker areas are recent (1,000 years) lava flows.

Dew Pond was devised by Charles Darwin. A man-made rainforest.

The pond water was diverted down the mountain.

The summit is in a bamboo forest!

The summit through a bamboo forest.

Old marine barracks on Green Mountain. The British marines were stationed here to keep an eye on ships heading south to avoid the rescue of Napoleon.

From the time I left my room until I returned was 7 hours of hiking. Long day but well worth it.

  1. Hey Mike Thanks very interesting. Please no nude pond scum swimming pics. The Guns remind me of Puerto Rico has a fort at the entrance to a port. At least you are able to walk there. No Fat Bike ? It has been raining in Oregon so much no riding but lots of walking in rain gear.Hang tuff buddy enjoy yer anniversary when you have a break.

  2. Thanks Mike for sharing these lovely photos of the hike and island views. It is a treat to read about the history and natural science achievements on this island. Congrats on your feat of hiking for those 7 hours! What is the temperature at the higher elevation? I have more questions, but will wait for your stories in person. Take care and enjoy this remote location. Love always, andee
