Palmer Station Aerial Views and More

A friend took this picture of me hiking. Everybody knows Mike and his orange jacket.

A few cool aerial pictures of Palmer Station, Anvers Island, Antarctic Peninsula. Hero Inlet at the top and Arthur Harbor at the bottom. Photo credit unknown.

Palmer Station is on Gamage Pt. in the middle. Bonaparte Pt. in the foreground is a popular hiking area. To get here you walk through the backyard behind the station, hike up the glacier and then around down to Bonaparte shown without ice.

A different view showing mountains in the background.

One more view with Palmer Station in the foreground.
Hiking to the VHF radio hut to work.

It's not far away in the station backyard but the snow is very deep hence the snowshoes.
Cool icicles.

Midwinter day June 21st, Solstice sunset.

The same day - sunset reflection off the continent.
A beautiful Antarctic sky reflection.

The sun not quite rising above the Marr Glacier yet.

The top of Mt. William to the right.

Palmer Station 4th of July food truck!

A patriotic cake by chef Lisa.

Barbecue on the ice too!

Ice moving into Arthur Harbor.

I started this hike in the dark and arrived at the top of the glacier with daylight rising and stars fading.

Taking a break and contemplating the enormity and beauty of Antarctica.

  1. Happy 4th, two weeks later! Please tell Chef Lisa that I appreciate the cake! I hope you had a good time with a BBQ hot dog for dinner! I know, that menu looked full of gourmet delights, and you don't eat meat! I am waiting for the cooler days with rain that will return soon, I hope. We have had a two week dry spell and the rest of the country has a heat wave. Thanks to your friend for the hiking photo, as that will be a memory you can describe, but will be better to view since it is such an awesome environment. Take care, Love always, andee
