The Sun Rising

I have been uploading my Palmer Station videos to YouTube. On the settings (the small gear on the bottom right side of the viewing screen on YouTube) select HD for the best quality.

Sunrise reflecting off the water.

A quiet Palmer Station.

Cool ice formations almost like pasta.

The Marr Glacier face melting away in the winter.

Another cool berg visiting the station.

Whenever a boat is out on the water a rescue boat from the Ocean Search and Rescue (OSAR) team is on the ramp and ready to launch

The sun now rises over the Marr Glacier!

Another glacier hike.

Morning glow across Arthur Harbor.

Another bright sunset.

Pancake ice forming in Hero Inlet.

The moon setting during my early morning hike. Out of focus but still cool.

Hoarfrost. When frost forms as minute ice crystals covering the ground, we just call it all frost. But sometimes the frost grains grow larger and are called hoarfrost crystals. Good hoarfrost is not that uncommon if you watch for it. Hoarfrost grows whenever it's cold outside and there is a ample source of water vapor nearby.

Hoarfrost on the flagline.

Hoarfrost on two rocks.

Palmer Station Aerial Views and More

A friend took this picture of me hiking. Everybody knows Mike and his orange jacket.

A few cool aerial pictures of Palmer Station, Anvers Island, Antarctic Peninsula. Hero Inlet at the top and Arthur Harbor at the bottom. Photo credit unknown.

Palmer Station is on Gamage Pt. in the middle. Bonaparte Pt. in the foreground is a popular hiking area. To get here you walk through the backyard behind the station, hike up the glacier and then around down to Bonaparte shown without ice.

A different view showing mountains in the background.

One more view with Palmer Station in the foreground.
Hiking to the VHF radio hut to work.

It's not far away in the station backyard but the snow is very deep hence the snowshoes.
Cool icicles.

Midwinter day June 21st, Solstice sunset.

The same day - sunset reflection off the continent.
A beautiful Antarctic sky reflection.

The sun not quite rising above the Marr Glacier yet.

The top of Mt. William to the right.

Palmer Station 4th of July food truck!

A patriotic cake by chef Lisa.

Barbecue on the ice too!

Ice moving into Arthur Harbor.

I started this hike in the dark and arrived at the top of the glacier with daylight rising and stars fading.

Taking a break and contemplating the enormity and beauty of Antarctica.
