The start of Sister Peak hike. |
This crater is called Perfect Crater. |
The peak of Sister Peak. |
My hiking partner Mark overlooking Two Boats and Green Mountain. |
The hike consists of crossing sometimes very narrow ridges connecting several peaks. The wind was blowing 40-50 knots so it was a bit tedious. |
Mark added our names to the logbook at the summit. |
Interesting views. |
A recent (1,000 yrs) lava flow. |
My hiking book where I collect hiking stamps during each hike from a letterbox. |
The letterbox, stamp, and logbook. |
Mars or the moon? |
A narrow ridge connecting peaks. The sides are steep with loose rock. |
The village of Two Boats on the left and RAF Travellers Hill on the right. A cloud covered Green Mountain in the back. |
Perfect Crater. |
Sister Peak to the top and right. |
Another view of the peak. |
A side view of the peaks. |
Elliot's Pass hike on Green Mountain. |
A long hike around the mountain near the summit. |
An obelisk marking the entrance to the first of several caves. |
The pass was opened in 1840. |
Ascension even has coffee plants. |
The screen catches fog and moisture drips onto the rock to water this plant which is indigenous to Ascension. |
A fine resting spot on Elliot's Pass. |
Another overgrown tropical trail. As I have said before Ascension could be Hawaii if there was more rain. |
I agree. The island areas that you have photographed are lovely and remind me of the islands we have visited. You have more experience now hiking and getting close to the land and vegetation. We are growing that coffee plant! The fog screen is interesting...and quite useful. I appreciate that you are gathering the stamps from your hikes. I want to visit lighthouses and gather stamps and memories!Be safe and enjoy!
