A hike up Cross Hill and a Tour of Fort Bedford

A recent C-17 arrival with my Satcom work center on a plateaued cinder cone.

Pan-Am Beach.

A machine to make aggregate out of lava rock.

The aggregate (fine and coarse) is used for construction.

Headed up Cross Hill then down to Georgetown.

The peak of Cross Hill on a rainy day.

Views of Georgetown.

The guns of Fort Bedford overlooking Georgetown.

Long Beach with a radar installation to the right.

Guns were placed here during WWII.

The guns are from the battleship HMS Hood. There are seats and rotating handles on each side to adjust the azimuth and elevation.

Another interesting read.

These old muzzle-loading cannons were used during WWI.

They weigh 6 1/2 tons each and were used on WWI battleships.

Cross Hill in the background.

Another view of Cross Hill shows the two range markers to enter Georgetown Harbor.

Another interesting day exploring.
