The Lawrence M. Gould has Arrived with the Summer Crew

A well-worn path back to the station (upper center).

A large iceberg drifted into Hero Inlet the day before the Lawrence M. Gould arrived.

A fine bow line handling team.

It was a tight fit between the pier and the iceberg.

Freshies after months of isolation.

Another hike over the glacier to watch Antarctic life.

A chinstrap penguin.

A blizzard was blowing during my hike.

  1. The hiking trail looks ominous and I bet the views are amazing. The wildlife doesn't look very aggressive, but I imagine the smell is despicable. Haha. You never mention that and I think it is obvious you can ignore the brown paths. That iceberg looks so magical and I wonder if the ship could move it back out of the harbor? It is hard to understand the depth of an iceberg, as well as the density of the mass of ice. My scientific mind just asks questions as the facts are unbelievable. See you soon! Love always, andee
